Military heraldry is the one effectively true to the origins, taking on the majority of the rules and symbols.

To study military heraldry means learning and appreciating the features of a coat of arms belonging to an authority or a division, evaluating the main military glories and the elements that best distinguish them.

A military coat of arms is more valid if it is very simple (conforming to the heraldic motto who has most has least): in fact, a shield that has too many partitions and figures which, at first glance may seem an attractive assembly of colours and forms, is not easy to interpret showing, with very few exceptions, often very considerable errors.

The heraldic coat of arms is formed of the shield, turreted crown, ornaments.

With regards the main elements that were included, greater importance was given to the war campaigns that the division had taken part in, distinguishing itself and gaining special compensation: the gold head blazons the coats of arms of divisions that have won golden medals for military valour.

To blazon a town that often has a link with the division, the coat of arms of the town or the province were often included in a quarter of the shield.

With regards the meaning of the colours in military heraldry, blue is symbol of military valour and red is the supreme sacrifice.
